RDO Gold Decalcifier
RDO Gold is a translucent and controllable decalcifier that is specifically designed for when biopsies contain minimal amounts of calcium and will provide less aggressive decalcification on both large and small tissue samples that the nucleic acids within the cell are not altered. The result is superb, sharp and crisp nuclear staining that one expects from good hematoxylin staining. There is no folding of tissues and since it is translucent and nonprecipatite, there is no filtration required – that saves you time! This is the decalcifier to use when you are looking for stellar morphological representation of bone biopsies.
How to Use RDO Gold
Fix the Tissue
Fix tissue in 10% neutral buffered formalin for 24–48 hours. RDO Gold works best on well-fixed specimens with minimal calcium content.
Immerse in RDO Gold
Place specimen in RDO Gold at a 25:1 ratio (solution to tissue). The translucent formula allows visual monitoring without filtration.
Monitor Carefully
Check specimens every 30 minutes to 1 hour. RDO Gold's gentler action requires closer monitoring but preserves nuclear detail beautifully.
Test for Completion
Use the bend test or needle probe to confirm decalcification. Remove promptly once complete to preserve optimal morphology.
Rinse and Process
Rinse in running water for 30–60 minutes. Process using routine histology protocols. Expect superb H&E staining results.
